Day 2: International Sustainability Week

At Sekurit Service we’re acknowledging European Sustainable Development Week, 26 – 30 September, 2022 by creating our own Sustainability Week  - with a programme of activities and knowledge transfer. 

It’s a great way to share some of our initiatives and goals in our collective engagement towards sustainability to support the Saint-Gobain purpose of making the world a better and more sustainable place to live. 

Our Actions on Packaging

We’re fully committed to the 3Rs approach to waste management. Firstly, we aim to avoid any unnecessary waste by reusing as many components as possible, such as crates, clips in PVC, picking spacers and extrusion protection profiles, optimising efficiency at our central warehouse in Bastogne and our plants.

We use two types of crates to transport our windshields: wooden and metal. Our wooden crates are produced with wood sourced from certified sustainable forests. We maximise the number of uses of each wooden crate and repair them frequently. When they’re too damaged, they get systematically recovered.

We’re increasing our use of metal crates. And for good reason. They contribute to lowering our carbon footprint. How? Simple: they can be folded, which means a return truck can carry up to three times more metal crates than wooden ones, plus they can be used many more times than wooden crates, meaning less material and waste.

To reduce our packaging carbon footprint, we’ve developed proprietary software that calculates the precise CO2 impact for our packaging materials.
